Editorial Reviews:

Savor Jamie and Bobby's tastiest food finds from across the country

You've seen the Deen brothers, Jamie and Bobbie, on their Food Network show Road Tasted. You've heard about them from their beloved mom, cookbook author and Food Network Host Paula Dean. Now, take a vicarious road trip with these good-old-boy charmers and learn how to make their tastiest regional recipes yourself. More than a cookbook, this is a slice of life, packed with more than 100 fabulous recipes inspired by foods Jamie and Bobby have tasted during their travels, plus inspiring color photos, snapshots of the brothers “on the road,” and personal stories about growing up in the South.

Summary: It has some charm
Comment: I think the Deen boys come across well with their enthusiasm and love of good eating in "The Deen Bros. Cookbook." It is clear that they are their mother's sons in their joy of the experience of food.

I was somewhat disappointed to read raving descriptions of the deliciousness of various foods Bobby and Jamie experienced in their travels only to discover that the recipe was NOT included. It is understandable, the recipes are the creations of other restaurants and chefs, so it's unlikely they wanted to share their secrets. Maybe the layout of the book would have been better to have the travel and restaurant food descriptions all together in a separate section and then the recipes, which are perfectly good and have lots of appeal, in another.

The recipes that are included are quite yummy. Mostly home style cooking or twists on down home food sending it a bit more upscale. I'm not disappointed, I enjoyed reading "The Deen Bros. Cookbook" very much.

Comment: I generally love watching and making Deen family recipes, but this book has been disappointing so far. We have made only 2 recipes though, but didn't like either one. It is rare that we make recipes and dislike them this much. Again, we generally enjoy this family's cooking, but I am already thinking I wish I had not bought this book.

Comment: A big dissappointment.
I expected southern basic recipes.
I should have reviewed it at the bookstore before purchasing.

Summary: Just a great cookbook
Comment: This is a fabulous Freshman effort by The Deen Brothers. I have never had a complaint on anything I have made from this book (in fact I get nothing but raves). The dishes are simple to put together but full of flavor. There is something for just about any occasion. The stuffed strawberries were a sensation at a bridal shower I did and the chocolate truffle pie was over the top for a daddy/daughter prom I put on. My family loves the barbequed chicken and key lime buttered salmon. I could go on and on, but basically, it's fair to say I have not been disappointed by any of the recipes or the book itself. It's a fun read for those who collect or enjoy browsing cookbooks for inspiration. A fabulous book to have in your kitchen.

Comment: This review is based on the condition of the "new" book received from Amazon. The box that the book arrived in was almost completely open (please use better tape next time). The book was not in "new" condition. Many of the pages were actually stuck together and the cover looked very worn. I can not tell you how disappointed I am in the quality of what was shipped from Amazon. This has happened several times in the last 6 months fo orders.
