Customer Rating: Summary: Easy Elixirs. Comment: I have little patience for cooking, eating out, or balancing a coke and fries while putting a cassette into my car deck at a stop light. The solution? Smoothies, of course, and the cost of this book is less than the cost of one of the tasty nectars served up by commercial vendors at the mall. The recipes are all on target, but be forewarned that the book is the size of a postage stamp (I can't even locate it when I know it's in my book bag), and the postage will likely exceed the price of the "book." But these are minor matters to genuine smoothie enthusiasts. If you're not one already, be assured that you will be after trying out just the first 2 or 3 recipes. Prepare yourself now by running to the super for some frozen berries and a quart of vanilla yogurt so the book can be put to immediate use when it arrives (just be careful not to drop it in the blender!). Customer Rating: Summary: Smooth Sailing into Summer with Jane Stacey's Smoothies Comment: Whether you have traditional tastebuds insisting on peaches and cream or more worldly tastebuds daring to sample spices from the Orient, this mini-book of smoothy recipes is a winner. Jane Stacey's book offers wonderful fruit and vegetable drink concoctions for the beginner cook to gourmet chef. Such fanciful names as "Raspberry Slip" and "Icy Hot Tomato" are just a few of the refreshing smoothy recipes you'll find in her book. One not only finds single recipes but also substitutions for recipes, in the event one wants to be adventurous (or is simply to lazy to drive to the store!). Stacey not only provides the reader with tasty summer pick-me-ups such as "Taste of East India," flavored with black tea, and "Java 'n' Love," a combination of chocolate carmel ice cream and espresso, but also educates the reader on the health benefits of the fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients of each recipe. If your body craves beta carotene and vitamin C, slurp a "Mango Moo," or if you are lactose intolerant, substitution advice for non-dairy based Smoothies is also included. With colorful pages and funky drawings, you will enjoy looking at your book while slurping that first and second and third smoothy!
