Editorial Reviews:

Betty Crocker’s classic cookbook for children is back–in an authentic reproduction of the original 1957 edition

A whole generation of Baby Boomers grew up with Betty Crocker’s Cookbook for Boys and Girls, and they have helped to make it the one of the most requested titles in the Betty Crocker archives. Now back by popular demand, this timeless favorite stands ready to capture the hearts of a new generation of budding cooks. Packed with recipes that are just as popular with kids today as they were 45 years ago, it shows how to make everything from Ice Cream Cone Cakes and Pigs in Blankets to Cheese Dreams and Sloppy Joes. The small format, easy recipes, charming color illustrations and photographs, and even the cover, are all the same as they were in the 1957 edition–and just as delightful as ever. The only innovation is the concealed wire binding that lies flat for easy cooking while being sturdy enough to withstand energetic handling by kids in the kitchen. It’s the ideal book to give or to keep, for retro appeal, and for getting today’s kids started in the kitchen.

Summary: A Classic Kid's Recipe book still relevant today!
Comment: I used my Mom's original copy from when she was a kid as I was growing up. I'm 22 now and I hope I can one day give this book to my children! Other reviewers noted differences in the old verses the new, and they are correct. There is no longer an easy orange cake or icing.

I never made those anyway. What I do remember is the classic eggnog, good kid cookies, my boy scout camping trip where we made dough boys, eggs in a frame, and so many other favorite recipes from my childhood.

I've since graduated to the original Betty Crocker's Cookbook from 1950, but this book is always nearby at hand for the fun recipes that I enjoyed as a Child. A great family heirloom to hand down!

Summary: Cookbook
Comment: I have one of the originals. I got it as a gift from a Great-Aunt and Great-Uncle when I was nine. I made many of the dishes then and I still make them. I bought this book for my daughter. She cooked out of my book, too.

Summary: Great, but small
Comment: My mom had this book when she was little and my big sister and I cooked out of it when we were little. I recently ordered it for my little sister for christmas. I was so excited to see it, but I just wish it was the original size. It is quite a bit smaller than it used to be.

Summary: book setup not kid user friendly
Comment: I was disappointed in this book. I didn't realize that it was so small. We also ended up having to remove the picture pages so the rest of the pages would turn smoothly and not tear. It seems they have too many pages for the size of the spiral in the binding.

Summary: Growing Up
Comment: When I was 11 I received a Betty Crocker cooking set (tiny pots, pans, cake pans, cookie sheet, mixing bowls and utensils, and cake, cookie and brownie box mixes.) The set included this cookbook. When my children were growing up, my youngest son would come home from school and make brownies from the recipe in this cookbook. When my daughter was old enough, I gave her my cookbook. My daughter-in-law still has her copy of this cookbook that her mother gave her. I've missed just having this book around so I decided to find it and get a copy to keep.
