Customer Rating: Summary: GREAT GREAT GREAT! Comment: I read a review that someone wrote saying "I'm not the most gifted cook around, but this was a little too basic even for me." I have to disagree VEHEMENTLY with that comment. I, too, can cook. But coming up with easy vegetarian dishes with my ultra-busy schedule was so hard before I got this book. I carry this book around with me, and when I don't know what to make for dinner, I just pick a recipe, stop at the store for an ingredient or two that I might not have, and then go home and whip it up. My husband loves these dishes, and he's a carnivore!
Sure, there are quesadillas with refried beans that would seem like a no-brainer. But the author always puts an interesting twist on the dish that I wouldn't have thought of myself. And there are a lot of recipes that I would have NEVER thought of myself.
5 Ingredients is all I can really handle most week days, so this book is PERFECT for me. I have it with me today and I'm going to try the Green chilie and ricotta rice tonight with one of the quesadilla recipes. Yummy!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great for Vegetarians and Omnivores Alike! Comment: As a family that eats very little meat, this cookbook has really done wonders for us! Directions are simple, recipes are great for everyday use, and we have yet to make something we haven't loved! I highly recommend this, and other books by Nava Atlas.
Many books on vegetarian cooking are so pretentious! Who has time to make something that takes three hours and requires a culinary degree, not to mention exotic (and expensive) ingredients? Also, just because something is vegetarian does not mean it is healthy. Nava takes care of all of this with easy to make, quick meals that include ingredients that most households already use and have. Also, she keeps the fat content down, and lists nutritional information for each recipe.
Great book for vegetarians and omnivores alike!
Customer Rating: Summary: Vegetarian cookbook Comment: A good product for those who don't want to fuss about the kitchen too much but have a decent meal!
Customer Rating: Summary: Perfect Everyday/Weekend Cookbook! Comment: This is the first cook book I have bought in at least a decade. I have my favorite recipes and occasionally try out a new one from the Internet or a friend. BUT ... the "5-ingredients" of this book's title attracted me to pick it up; the clarity and the simplicity of the ingredients and the methods encouraged me to buy it; the delicious results mean that I use Nava Atlas' book at least 3 or 4 times a week, whether I have just got in from work or am planning something ahead. Soups are delicious; potato (sweet and/or white)and vegetable recipes are scrumptious; soy recipes are fresh and interesting, and there are some new slants on grains, salads and dips. I love the new tastes and the ease of putting things together. THANK YOU, NAVA!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Indespinsible. Comment: This is a fantastic cookbook. Not only does it have great recipes (which are ready in a flash, more often than not, as well as being brief in the ingredients), it encouraged me to remember that the best dishes I serve are often the ones in which a very few items shine forth in their best light. Handy for anyone, vegetarian or not, but especially for the cook who wants to whip up a veggie dish without breaking the bank at the market.
