There is a $10 blood test for CRP that monitors inflammation which is the newest suspected culprit in hunger/cravings and difficulty in weight loss. His blood test was normal. However, the hormone Leptin is the topic in this cutting edge book that caught my attention. A key symptom of Leptin imbalance is constant hunger. This book is a great guide, but don't ever think there is an easy way out of obesity (50 lbs overweight or more). My husband went through over-eating withdrawals while recovering from back surgery. He was taking anti-inflammatories and pain meds for about a week. My husband detests drugs of any kind. He was also suffering from nausea and did not want to admit to withdrawal symptoms, but I did and we had to work hard to stay on track with smaller portions, recognizing "triggers" that cause overeaters to return to their killer snacking habits, and no eating after evening dinner. He now looks great, understands how to eat when we are at a restaurant or party, and has returned to exercising faithfully (the back surgery was pivotal in returning to fitness walks, etc). Anyone who buys this book is looking for the underlying CAUSES of overeating, not just a quick fix. You are on the right track and very smart. There is no magic cure or pill (without adverse side effects). The over-eater has to recognize their addiction and treat it as such. His constant hunger pains are gone. Yea!!! As the book claims, you can reprogram your body to stay thin, but you have to be in charge and stay the course.

Summary: This Program Delivers
Comment: I am a 44 year-old female with signs of RA. I started this diet in an attempt to reduce any inflammation in my body that might aggravate my RA. I have to say, I haven't had much relief in that department, but this diet cut my carb cravings, boosted my energy, and made me feel like I am finally eating the way I was made to eat. This diet just feels right! It's a feeling that you just cannot get from a bag or a box.

It took me about 2 months to see steady weight loss - I've lost a total of 17 pounds so far. And now what I now know about this eating plan is that I can go on vacation, eat out every meal for 4 days, or "cheat" on the weekends or when we have company and not gain a single ounce - I really do keep the weight off without trying and it keeps coming off.
This diet has absolutely done what it was designed to do - put my body back in balance by eating healthy fats and phytonutrients.

The recipes are delicious, creative, and balanced. It did seem like the portions were really meant for two, but I guess it's part of the "loading" stage to get the balance of healthy fats in so they can go to work. It happened for me and I am very, very grateful.

Comment: When I ordered this book, my hope was that "this time it will work !" As I read through the book, I decided that indeed, it "might work!"
As I put the recommendations to work, I found out that it DID work!
I have totally changed my eating habits, as recommended, and have found that weight loss started immediately, and has maintained at an even level for four months. The recipes are delicious, the snacks satisfying, the results awesome!
I highly recommend this book to all who have been having trouble losing weight, and keeping it off. It IS easy, after all !

Summary: Great summary of leptin resistance
Comment: This book was easy to read, yet gave the reader a grasp of the most recent research on obesity, with the issues of leptin resistance and inflammation.
He has a unique twist on it with the use of herbs to fight inflammation.
After reading this book, you will have a much better grasp of what you need to do and what you need to avoid to get off the dieting yo-yo.
The only way his diet could be improved would be if it were vegetarian, as cooked meat is very toxic. Nonetheless, this book is worth reading just to understand the science in easy layman's terms.
