The book is a cookbook focusing on Dutch oven and camp cooking, spiced with humorous and informative stories of Mr. Welch's experiences cooking in the back country of Idaho. It includes the basics of history, selection, and care of Dutch ovens along with many recipes which a beginning Dutch oven cook, as well as a more experienced cook, will be able to master. The objective is to prepare easy, healthy, and delicious meals outdoors.

Customer Rating: Summary: Perfect for the outdoorsman Comment: I bought this book as a christmas present for my father. He moved to Idaho a few years ago, and now loves everything Idaho, so I knew he would love that it was written by an native! He hasnt put it down since Christmas, because not only does it have great recipes but funny short stories too!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great job explaining dutch oven cooking Comment: This man can COOK ! I love the recipes and how he explains why he does what he does. Explains everthing so nothing is left to chance. I also bought the other cook book he wrote about dutch oven cookery.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very Satisfied Comment: The recipes are simple to work with, and the side stories are a wonderful bonus!
Customer Rating: Summary: Dutch Oven cooking at it's best Comment: For me as a German "Dutch Oven Lover" this cookbook is an easy and efficient way of learning how to cook with a Dutch Oven; the recipes are explained in detail and easy to change with other ingredients that are handy.
The highlights of this book are the tales which are very amusing and informative at the same time. It gives this cookbook a touch of a Wild West story book, nicely to read and entertaining.
When did you read - really read - a cookbook last time?
This book was fun to read and I learned a lot of "handling" my Dutch Oven and outdoor cooking.
Customer Rating: Summary: Too Funny Comment: I havn't had the opertunity to try the recipes yet but this cookbook is a great read. The recipes all look basic enough with a good mix of simple supermarket ingrediants as well as wild game recipes. I have about a 1/2 dozen dutch oven cookbooks and these are by far the best read so far. Unfortunatly despite the listing this is *not* spiral bound and wont stay open while cooking hands free. The second book, "more Cee dub's Dutch Oven and other camp cookin" is still spiral bound.
