Even if a hectic schedule leaves you with no time to think about what's for dinner, you don't have to resort to leftovers or take-out! Getting a wholesome, homemade meal on the table after a busy day can be easy, and Diane Phillips shows you how in You've Got It Made. This book features 150 recipes that can be prepped and assembled ahead of time, refrigerated or frozen, and baked right before serving. Dishes include everything from appetizers to entrees to desserts, with casseroles, quiches, gratins, pasta and grain dishes, potpies, breads, fruit cobblers, cookies, and more. Recipes include Prosciutto Palmiers, Honey-Teriyaki Chicken Wings, Asian Braised Short Ribs, Pork Osso Buco with Parmesan Polenta, Tuscan Stuffed Chicken Breasts, Old-Fashioned Mac and Cheese with Variations, Seafood Florentine, Bananas Foster French Toast, and Chocolate Lava Cakes. For each recipe, Phillips gives you tips on do-ahead preparation and how best to freeze/refrigerate your meals, and her thorough introduction covers all the basics of making food in advance, including ingredients, equipment, food safety, and technique.

Customer Rating: Summary: What A Great Find! Comment: When my hubbie and I needed to go across the state to help out my uncle and aunt (both in their 80s) after a hospitalization, I was able to make up several (one very easy, one a bit more work) dishes before we left to take with us. What a great thing to just be able to pop an already prepared meal into the oven for a bit. What I really enjoyed is that these recipes are a blend of casserole types so not all of them have a rice or noodle base.
The recipes we tried were absolutely delicious and I have ear-marked many others to fix. The only thing I could see as a drawback is no nutritional values are listed.
Customer Rating: Summary: you've got it made Comment: This is a superior book for those who like to get the work done ahead of the dinner so they can enjoy their guests. The recipes I've tried so far have really wowed our guests, especially the appetizers that were wrapped in puff pastry. I love Diane Phillips books!
Customer Rating: Summary: An ideal and thoroughly 'kitchen cook friendly' addition Comment: "You've Got It Made: Deliciously Easy Meals To Make Now & Bake Later" by Diane Phillips comprises a compendium of 150 high-quality and culinarily interesting recipes that can be made ahead of time and then frozen or refrigerated until needed. Each individual recipe features a one-paragraph introduction, a serving size estimate, a list of ingredients, 'Make It Now' step-by-step directions, and a "Bake it Later" series of instructions. Each recipe is also presented with a 'Variation' and 'Diva Notes' relevant to that particular dish. After a 'Do-Ahead Strategies' chapter, recipes themselves are grouped into sections on Appetizers and Small Bites; Pasta and Grain Bakes; Hot Dish; The Main Dish: Meat; The Main Dish: Poultry; The Main Dish: Sea Food; On the Side; and Desserts. With recipes ranging from Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp with Many Basting Sauces; Old-Fashioned Mac and Cheese with Variations; French Toast Cobblers; and Mom's Old-Fashioned Meat Loaf; to Green Chile, Monterey Jack, and Chorizo-Stuffed Chicken Breasts with Salsa Verde; Baked Salmon and Spinach Casserole; Baked Stuffed Chipotle-Maple Sweet Potatoes; and Maple Praline Pumpkin Cheesecake Streusel Bars, "You've Got It Made" is an ideal and thoroughly 'kitchen cook friendly' addition to any family or community library cookbook collection.
Customer Rating: Summary: Really makes sense Comment: Regarding the book: You've Got It Made. I've made three recipes from this book and it is clear and exact in the directions. The Short Ribs were particularly delicious and it was wonderful that this meal could wait until I needed it. The directions to finish the meals are perfect. I also did the puff pastry rolls with the blue cheese (one of the suggested variations) and they got rave reviews! I made them and popped them into the freezer until I needed them. Fantastic! I want to try every recipe in this book!
Customer Rating: Summary: disappointed Comment: I heard the author on Everyday Foods and couldn't wait to order the book. I'm glad I read the reviews - I don't buy cookbooks without pictures - eating has to start with the eye.
