Editorial Reviews:

Before she attended the prestigious French cooking school École de Cuisine La Varenne, Virginia Willis had been shelling butterbeans alongside her mother and grandmother in her Georgia family kitchen ever since she could stand on a stool. These divergent influences inform her passionate homage to the cooking of the South. From simple starters and slaws to generous entrées and desserts, Willis makes down-home cooking refined and haute cuisine friendly, with recipes like Vidalia Onion Soup with Bacon Flan, Pulled Pork Sandwiches with Mama's Barbecue Sauce, and Hot Vanilla Soufflés with Vanilla Ice Cream. Brimming with stories, tips, techniques, and gorgeous photographs, BON APPÉTIT, Y'ALL seamlessly blends Willis's Southern and French roots into a memorable and thoroughly modern cookbook.

Summary: WooHoo Y'all
Comment: I was fortunate enough to attend the annual American Royal Barbecue Cook Off in Kansas City last night and had the unique pleasure of meeting Virginia Willis and winning this cookbook! What a lovely and gracious lady. I obviously have not had time to try any of her recipes yet, but I have had time to read through some of her stories. I collect cookbooks that contain not only good recipes, but cookbooks that I can "read" like a non-fiction book and ones that contain beautiful pictures. Bon Appetit, Y'all ranks highly in both areas. I did get to sample her Black-Eyed Pea Salad which she prapared before dozens of fans and it is to die for. I only wished we could have spent more time with her to hear more stories about Virginia's interesting and blessed life. Thank You Virginia!

Summary: A Cookbook that is as Practical as it is Beautiful!
Comment: It is true, "Bon Appetit, Y'all" is a beautiful, well laid out cookbook full of wonderful receipes, photographs and stories. I couldn't put the "book" down before reading through the stories and "almost" wishing I were a true Southerner. While the book is worthy of the coffee table, you may have to buy two copies and keep one in the kitchen. As a food novice, I am pleased that the receipes contain more direction, explanation and handy hints than the average cookbook. The in-depth direction and interesting stories give me confidence and inspiration to try the receipes and improve my cooking abilities.

"Bon Appetit, Y'all" is a perfect Christmas present and I plan to buy a copy for all the chefs in my family.

Summary: The Real Deal
Comment: As a displaced southerner (a Georgian at that) living in New York City, this 5 star book delights with its authenticity and delicious recipes. It is not just a taste of home for me but rather a snapshot of a great regional cuisine. The recipes are real and not dressed up to make them appealing to tiresome foodies or to complement current trends. Southern Food, Southern Cooking, Soul Food--however it is described, this cookbook tells the true story.

Summary: Excellent
Comment: Many cookbooks contain interesting recipes... but my favorite cookbooks also count as a good read. This one is a new favorite -- my mother was GRITS (Girl Raised In The South), so many of the foods are familiar to me, and I am happy to have more recipes. And I spent a happy afternoon reading, which is always a big plus for me. Great addition to my collection.

Summary: Virginia is great
Comment: virginia Willis is a wonderful person and chef. I have known her personally for many years and have had her cater events for me before she got soooo famous. Her book is fabulous. Her attention to detail and wonderful recipes are a great way for her to share with us. Kimberly Young
