Their specialty cakes have astounded and drawn raves from such clients as Tiffany, Cartier, Bloomingdales, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Vogue, and their wedding cakes have graced the pages of Bride's Little Book of Cakes and Toasts, Bride's, and Martha Stewart's Weddings. Scott Clark Woolley is, quite simply, the master of the stunning-to-behold yet easy-to-learn art of sugar paste flowers, used as both cake decorations and freestanding ornaments.
In their popular classes in New York City, Woolley and Farace taught absolute beginners how to make strikingly realistic flowers in one session, with a technique that is unique and easy to learn. Assembled in this book is fifteen years' worth of know-how, the most complete construction and idea book on sugar paste flowers and ornaments. The book includes step-by-step instructions on how to make dozens of varieties of flowers, detailed information on the tools one needs to get started, delicious cake recipes, and a profusion of inspirational photographs, showing finished cakes and centerpieces that will delight both professionals and at-home cake decorators, inspiring them to achieve both simple and simply spectacular sugar art creations.

Customer Rating: Summary: A must for your Collection Comment: I have been a cake decorator for 40 yrs and I wish this book was out in my starting out lessons. I recommend it for all those who love the art of gum paste.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great variety of flowers Comment: I love making gumpaste flowers and this book is among those which has the greatest variety of different flowers. Instructions seem easy to follow (at least if you are not a complete beginner), though I have to admit that I almost never make flowers according to exact instructions anymore, i.e. I adapt the procedure and print out several pics of real flowers and work from those.
However, books like this are ideal for people who are bored with conventional roses-stephanotis-jasmine-lilies-cala lilies-blossoms type of sugarcraft decorations, and would welcome ideas for something a bit different. The flowers are very beautiful, though personally I like Alan Dunn's work a bit better. Still, an excellent book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Sugar Flowers Comment: Honestly, I was quite dissapointed with this book. I thought it would give me a more step by step instruction. I have found other books much more useful.
Customer Rating: Summary: this is for advanced decorators Comment: This book is quite complete. Some of the chapters deal with fondant, gum paste [recipes included], seasonal gum paste flowers such as Alstroemeria, Anemone, Campanula,Bleeding Heart, Gardenia, Geranium, Parrot Tulip, Hibiscus, Iris, Water Lily, Bird of Paradise, Gloriosa Lily. as well as the usual roses, violets, daffodils. etc. This is not the entire bouquet! There's not just flowers in this book, There's unusual cakes as well as all the sugar art goodies to match, patterns included.
Customer Rating: Summary: Novice Cake Decorators Can Do It Too! Comment: I like this book very much because it gives you step by step details and explanations. I have been able to practice making and using royal and fondant icing to decorate my cakes. I feel Mr. Woolley wrote this book as if he were teaching students in his studio. The pictures are excellent in their quality. This is a wonderful assest when using the book as your teacher. I look forward to taking a class with him.
