Editorial Reviews:

A fresh take and indispensable kitchen companion on kosher cooking, for the legions of Jews and others who follow or aspire to adopt Jewish dietary laws.

Kosher cuisine is a culinary niche that is rapidly becoming mainstream, as many home cooks outside the Jewish community, seeking more healthful and humane fare, are embracing kosher foods and Jewish dietary laws. Now, Hip Kosher provides detailed, practical resources for finding kosher items in your local stores and more than 175 recipes for every meal and occasion, showcasing contemporary American dishes rather than traditional Eastern European or Sephardic fare.

Accessible, easy-to-prepare, and versatile, the recipes are perfect for busy people who don't have hours to spend in the kitchen. Many recipes include menu suggestions, while sidebars note recipe variations, updates on classics, and helpful prep hints about ingredients and tools. Fein also describes Jewish dietary laws (and halal, permitted Muslim foods) and provides comprehensive sources.

Summary: Salad Lover
Comment: My family loves salads in the summer, but we were bored with the same old, same old. I started browsing cookbooks for something new and found it in Hip Kosher. I didn't really know what Kosher cooking was all about, but, as a fan of the Idiot's Guide to American Cooking, I did know I like Ronnie Fein recipes. She has done it again. Steak Salad with Mustard Shallot Vinaigrette and Turkey Couscous Salad with Grapes, Oranges and Cashews drew raves from everyone, children included. I've just begun to explore the vegetables, entrees and desserts and I am thrilled not only with the wonderful blend of flavors, but with how easy they are to prepare. Hip Kosher is a treasure -- whether you are hip, Kosher or just like good food!

Summary: my new favorite cookbook!
Comment: Though I am not kosher, I received this cookbook as a gift -- and I love it! Every recipe I've tried worked easily, with well-written, actually enjoyable directions (it felt like having a good smart interesting friend who really knows her stuff standing there in the kitchen with me as I cooked) and, most importantly, every single thing I made was delicious! I can't wait to make more... Highly recommended. I am about to buy any other cookbook I can find by Ronnie Fein.

Summary: Finally!
Comment: Just bought this book after I looked at it at someone's house. FINALLY FINALLY there's a book full of recipes that aren't more of the same traditional kosher stuff. I already have enough recipes for brisket and potato latkes. This book has so many interesting recipes I can't wait to try like the plums poached with cloves, the asparagus salad with toasted almonds and goat cheese, branzini with tomato-olive relish and the grand finale cookies. Last night I made the lamb kebabs and got rave reviews. Tonight it's the stir fried couscous and apricots and chicken. It sounds delicious. There are also some good sidebars.

Summary: Wouldn't buy it !
Comment: This book mostly has Mexican food recipes. I really do not care for a Mexican food cook book. Not really a diverse recipe book at all. I would never buy this book again.
