Editorial Reviews:

You'll feel like you deserve a chef's hat and an Italian accent when removing pizza from the oven with Sassafras's attractive wood pizza peel. Large enough for family-size pizzas, this peel easily slides under a freshly baked pizza to remove it from the oven with panache. Even if you're just reheating a ready-made pizza, the peel is an attractive, authentic way to serve it, giving a homemade feel to even frozen pizzas. Sturdily crafted with smoothly beveled edges and a beautiful finish, this peel should not go in the dishwasher. --Laura Cuthbert

Summary: It broke!
Comment: I only ever used this a handful of times and the wood split and it broke in half.

Summary: No problems
Comment: I use the peel mainly for bread and have had no problems. After reading all the reviews before this purchase, maybe previous users who had warping problems did not use enough mineral oil for "seasoning" before first use. Or were over zealous with cleaning. It took mine almost 3/4 cup applied over 3 days before no more oil was absorbed. Even after many uses, the peel gets an light oil rubdown once in a while. Have not needed to get any water near it for "cleaning". A light wipe with a dry paper towel works. Water and wood do not mix! As for sticking problems, if corn meal does not provide enough slide, try using parchment paper. Dust peel with cornmeal, cut parchment paper approximately the same size as bread or pizza, dust paper with cornmeal and build pizza or bread on top. Everything should slide right off. The parchment paper will not interfer with baking results, plus it provides a small grip for sliding the peel underneath when ready to take the bread or pizza out of the oven. Am absolutely happy with this product and expect it to last for many many years.

Summary: Mineral Oil
Comment: An excellent and inexpensive source of mineral oil is from a large animal veterinarian. Mineral oil is often used to treat a cow that has bloated. The mineral oil carried by a veterinarian will come in a gallon jug and is food grade. I use it to soak many of my kitchen utensils, especilly wooden knife handles.

Summary: Good pizza do-hickey
Comment: For anyone that lives off of frozen-pizza's, this is a must! Just makes inserting and taking out of the pizza easy and burn-scar free. I will be purchasing another one for my son. The reason for the 4-star was that the wood wasn't treated at all and felt "rough".

Summary: The only peel you will ever need
Comment: This product works well. Light weight, just the right size for my oven. I seasoned it with mineral oil. And remember be gentle when cutting your pizza on it.
